REFLECTION
Experience
This semester felt like a full
exploration of what typography can do. We started with typographic
systems, learning how to structure layouts, then moved on to extracting
letters and turning them into a movie poster. From there, we explored
word marks, shaping identities through type, and eventually, I created
my own typeface from scratch. Finally, I brought it all together by
using my font in presentations and real‑world applications. Each step
built on the previous one, and it was exciting to see my skills grow
along the way.
Observations
I’ve noticed how every stage
required a balance between creativity and precision. Systems taught me
structure, while the movie poster pushed me to see type as an expressive
visual element. Designing a wordmark taught me about identity and
refinement, and creating a typeface showed me how every curve and angle
matters.
Findings
By applying my typeface in
different contexts, I learned that typography isn’t just about designing
letters—it’s about how they live and communicate in the real world. This
process gave me confidence in exploring bold ideas, refining details,
and turning concepts into tangible designs. Overall, it’s been a
semester of connecting theory to practice and finding my own voice
through type.
