Rationale:
The original artwork is a mix of classic and surreal art, blending detailed still-life elements with dreamy, floating objects to create a magical and intriguing atmosphere, inspired by traditional still-life paintings. I used the original painting as the background and added only one layer of black solid color with reduced opacity. This highlights the erased elements, such as the glowing bubbles and bees, and makes the scene feel less crowded without diminishing the vibrancy of the original.
Besides that, I have added the title of the original artwork. The typography was carefully chosen to match the whimsical and elegant theme. A flowing script font was used to give a fairy-tale feel, much like the classic “happily ever after” endings in stories. The decorative swirls in the lettering add a sense of movement, making it feel natural within the artwork. To keep the text readable, its placement and size were balanced so it wouldn’t get lost in the details of the background. I also named my final design poster after the original artwork.
For the color, a soft golden tone was selected. This warm color stands out against the darker background while blending beautifully with the light reflections in the scene. A subtle glow effect was added to make the text feel like part of the artwork rather than separate from it.
The bubbles and bees symbolize how happiness, much like these delicate elements, is beautiful but fragile. This piece reminds viewers to cherish joy while it lasts, making “Happily Ever After” feel both magical and meaningful.
REFLECTION
What have I learnt in this module?
I have learned how important design principles are in creating visually appealing and meaningful work. Understanding these design principles has helped me not only in designing new poster for this assignment, but also improved my overall design skills.
What did I enjoy the most? What did I not enjoy the most?
I enjoyed brainstorming ideas and coming up with creative concepts, especially when using the original artwork to create something new. Bringing these ideas to life was the most exciting part. However, I found dealing with technical issues and revisions challenging because I am still not very familiar with Photoshop. It was sometimes frustrating when my ideas didn’t turn out as expected, but these challenges helped me grow and improve my design skills.
I realized that I love maximalist designs, but I also appreciate minimalism. This led me to simplify a complex artwork into a more refined final piece, balancing both styles.
What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
What has changed is my approach to design. I now think more critically about my choices rather than just focusing on aesthetics. I pay more attention to how design elements work together to create meaning. What has not changed is my curiosity and willingness to experiment. I still love exploring new ideas and pushing creative boundaries.
What are my aspirations?
I aspire to keep improving my design skills by applying design principles that I have learnt from this module. I also hope to create more meaningful and impactful works in the future.
