REFLECTION
Experience
Throughout the Typography course, I engaged deeply with various tasks and
exercises that expanded my understanding of typographic design principles.
From the initial exploration of type expressions to the intricate process
of text formatting, each task provided me with opportunities to experiment
and refine my skills. I particularly enjoyed the creative freedom in Task
1, where I could visually express emotions and concepts through type. Task
2 allowed me to dive deeper into structuring content and managing layouts,
which taught me the importance of grids and alignment. Finally, Task 3
offered an exciting challenge of designing a typeface, pushing me to think
critically about legibility and style.
Observation
During the exercises, I observed that typography is more than just
arranging letters, it’s about communication, structure, and visual
storytelling. I noticed how subtle changes, such as adjusting kerning or
line spacing, can have a significant impact on readability and aesthetics.
Working with grids and margins in Task 2 highlighted how layouts influence
the flow of information, emphasizing balance and clarity. In Task 3, I
became aware of the complexity involved in creating a cohesive typeface,
from sketching ideas to refining vector paths in Ai.
Findings
I discovered the importance of mastering the tools in Adobe InDesign and FontLab. They helped me to streamline my workflow. Becoming familiar with these tools was crucial for executing my ideas.
With the help of tools helped me a lot during my attempt of designing.
Also, typography often requires many iterations to perfect the outcome. Feedback and revisions played a key role in improving my work.
