FINAL PROJECT

Final Project: Visual Effects Video (30%)
We were tasked to produce a visual effects video based on a given theme, gaining both theoretical and practical skills in video and sound production. This project helps us develop creative use of software and digital media to communicate design concepts.
Theme: Tarot.

We selected number 1, it is to express "how do the main character felt, thought about himself/herself." and we were assigned the Tarot card “The Emperor.”

PROCESS WORK

Pre-production:

Production:
Figure 1.2.2 ; Behind the scenes ; Week 12
Since it wasn’t convenient for my group members to come to my place to film, I handled the scenes at home by myself. I set up my camera on a tripod, and because I couldn’t directly see the frame while acting, I used Apple Watch’s synced camera function to monitor the live view and adjust the angle until it matched what I envisioned.

I also prepared some props, and lighting setups to enhance the mood. I used a warm yellow desk lamp to light the area where the sticky notes were placed. This warm tone was intentional to help create a cozy and positive atmosphere, emphasizing that this part of the scene represents a hopeful moment for the main character.

Post production:
After we're done with the shooting, we started editing in the timeline

FEEDBACK

Week 9
This week, we formed our team and selected the topic for our final project. Mr. Martin briefed us on the project requirements and advised us to start planning and developing the story plot early.

Week 10
No feedback given as we began testing out some initial shooting techniques and experimented with camera setups to see what would work best for our planned scenes.

Week 13
Mr. Martin reviewed our work and commented that our story plot lacked depth. He suggested that we search for another mirror VFX tutorial to enhance our visual approach. In addition, he helped us by brainstorming and proposing a stronger, improved story plot for us to develop further.

Week 14
We showed Mr. Martin the additional clips we had shot for the VFX sequence. During class, we worked on editing the VFX, and Mr. Martin advised us to finish up quickly so we could meet the submission deadline.

REFLECTION

This was a very fun yet challenging project. The only given theme was a tarot card, and the rest was up to us. We had to create our own story, direct, and act it out while incorporating visual effects. The level of creative freedom was extremely high, which was exciting but also overwhelming at times. I tend to overthink because I want to bring every idea in my head to life, but since this is only a one‑minute video, trying to include too many details would have made the story feel cramped and confusing for the audience. Another challenge was working with a teammate I wasn’t very familiar with, which sometimes made communication and idea‑sharing a bit difficult. However, we managed to work through these issues, and luckily the final result turned out quite satisfying.

In this project, I was also responsible for arranging the sequence and editing the video. Through this process, I learned many new techniques in Premiere Pro, from organizing shots efficiently to applying effects smoothly, which has been a valuable learning experience for me. Overall, this project not only pushed me creatively but also helped me improve my technical skills and teamwork.
