TUTORIAL & PRACTICAL

Week 2  // Task 1 : Vormator Challenge - Character Creation

In week 2, Mr. Hafiz introduced to us what will we learn in this module. we played a game named "The Bézier Games", this is a tutorial for learning how the pen tool works. Then, Mr. Hafiz briefed to us the first task, which is the vormator challenge. In order to complete this task, we have to create shapes using Adobe Illustrator, then create a unique character by combining and manipulating the shapes given.

    The Bézier Games :
I think this game is not very difficult for me because I have practiced the pen tool in Ai before when I was in my foundation study but I also learned some new techniques from this game.

    My Sketch :
At first for my character creation I wanted to design an insect, but I changed to this kitten

I was inspired by my friend's kitten, an orange male kitten named Kitsuko, and my friend loves sushi so much that gave me the idea of creating this character.

For my character, I wanted it to look cute, so I combined two Bars and two Wurst to make the face look like an oval. I was going to add some whiskers to the kitten's face, but I wasn't sure which shapes looked like whiskers, so I used Tentacles to make a mustache on the face of the character. The combination of kitten and mustache created a sense of contrast for the character and adds a quirky twist to the cuteness of the kitten.

Then, I used the Drop and the Badge for the body as for the cute appearance of the character. As for the scarf, I didn't add it at first, but it would have looked empty without it, so I added a scarf to flesh out the character's overall look.

Week 3 //

Mr. Hafiz introduced to us the pathfinder and shapebuilder tools to us in this week.

This is the silhouette of my character, Sushi Kitty. I named it 'Sushi Kitty' because it is a kitten and it has a cute sushi hat on top of it's head. I
used the colors beige, brown and black as we are only allowed to use three colors for the silhouette.

I decided to color my character overall in orange tone and also submitted it, as Mr. hafiz mentioned that if we submit a colored version, we might get extra credits. The orange tone gives a mischievous look to the character.

REFLECTION

Experience
This task pushed me to think creatively within set limits, which was both fun and a bit tricky. It felt rewarding to transform simple shapes into a character that had personality and charm. Working with constraints also made me more resourceful, helping me find clever ways to shape my ideas.

Observations
I noticed how small changes in shapes could transform a character’s personality. Testing multiple layouts and adding details like the scarf helped make the design more complete. I also realized that colors play a big role in enhancing the character’s look and mood.

Findings
This challenge taught me how to creatively work within limitations, turning simple shapes into meaningful designs. It also made me more confident in using Illustrator tools to build and refine characters, showing me the importance of experimenting and adding small touches to make a design stand out.
